Facts One Should Know About the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The Balloon Festival in Albuquerque is the world's largest and grandest hot air balloon convention, which takes place in the state of New Mexico, USA. It is now known as the 'Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta'.
The festival is celebrated over a period of nine days, during early October. The various events start from early morning, and goes on till late evening.
The very first official balloon event at Albuquerque was held in the April of 1972, at the Coronado Shopping Center, where 13 participants took part in the event as an honor of the 50th birthday celebrations of KOB Radio.
The year 1975 was when Albuquerque organized the first Hot Air Balloon Championship of the World. The festival also started hosting a gas balloon competition, known as the America's Challenge Gas Balloon Race, since the year 1995.
One must wonder why Albuquerque? Apart from the passionate balloonist that reside in the city, Albuquerque provides the most favorable weather conditions, like wind speed, temperature (especially in the month of October), and geographic location, which works very well in the favor of pilots.
The Balloon Glow/Night Glow is one of the most amazing part of the fiesta. The balloon glow is an event where hot air balloons are set up and inflated during the nighttime, but instead of ascending them towards the sky, they are held down on the ground. Spectators can enjoy watching balloons lit-up and walk through them.
Every year, 500+ balloons are registered to participate in the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. The count of visitors go up to around 100,000 or more, spread across the balloon fiesta park, which is about 360 acres in size.
Ballooning is one of the most oldest aviation sport in the world. More than 20 countries participate in the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, namely: Germany, Jamaica, Spain, France, Ukraine, New Zealand, Brazil, China, Thailand, Switzerland, etc.
The credit of high tourist attraction at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta goes to the Special Shape Rodeo event. This is where hundreds of different balloon characters are seen flying in the sky.
Dino, Miss Bell, Lilly Little Bee, High Kitty, Ameri-can, Nelly-B, Little Giraffe Kermit the Frog, Buzzy Bee, Coco the Cow, Sonic the Hedgehog, Old Lady in the Shoe, Wall-E, Mr. Winter, Darth Vader, Uncle Sam, Ham-Let, Cream land Cow, and many more are the highlight of the show.
