Christmas Recipes for Kids

Make this Christmas a memorable one by including your kids while cooking. Here are some recipes that your children will enjoy making.
Christmas is a great time to enjoy and bond with one's family members. People who usually have a busy life and are not able to spend much time with their kids and family, should make the most of this opportunity. Taking your children for holidays or visiting places they love like the zoos, museums, aquariums, etc. are good ideas.
However, sometimes, due to the party planning and organizing, going out may become an impossible thing. If this is the problem you are facing, why not try an innovative idea like cooking along with your children.
You can try out some simple recipes and introduce your children to the fun activity of cooking. These dishes are not very difficult or elaborate, rather they are quite easy and surely the kids will enjoy every moment of it.

Cookies

Cookies are considered to be one of the easiest recipes to prepare. Enlisted here are a few recipes that you can try.

Oatmeal-Chocolate Chip Cookies


Ingredients
  • Flour, 1¾ cups
  • Softened Butter, 8 oz.
  • Milk, 3 tsp.
  • Old-fashioned Rolled Oats, 12 oz.
  • Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp.
  • Baking Soda, 1 tsp.
  • Eggs, 2
  • Semisweet Chocolate Chips, 12 oz.
  • Baking Powder, ½ tsp.
  • Light Brown Sugar, 1½ cups
  • Salt, 1 tsp.
Preparation

Mix flour, baking powder, oats, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl and keep it aside. In another mixing bowl, take sugar and softened butter, and whisk till they are fully blended. You can also use the electric blender for this purpose. Mix the eggs, one at a time, with this mixture. This should be followed by milk and vanilla extract.
Mix these ingredients thoroughly and add the flour mixture into it. Stir till they are fully combined and finally sprinkle chocolate chips into this mixture. Pour the cookie dough into sheets with the help of a tablespoon and bake them for 12-15 minutes in a 350 °F preheated oven.
Make sure that the cookies are golden in color before taking them out. Cool them for five minutes in a wire rack and cut them into different shapes with cookie cutters.

Fruit and Nut Cookies


Ingredients
  • All-purpose Flour, 1¼ cups
  • Sugar, ¾ cup
  • Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp.
  • Baking Soda, ½ tsp.
  • Butter, ½ cup
  • Raisins, 4 oz.
  • Brazil Nuts, 4 oz.
  • Glazed Cherries, 4 oz.
  • Egg, 1
  • Glazed Pineapple, 4 oz.
  • Pinch of salt
Preparation

Coarsely chop the glazed pineapples, cherries and Brazil nuts and set aside. Take a large mixing bowl and combine eggs, sugar, vanilla, and butter with the help of an electric mixer. Once this mixture becomes creamy, add salt, flour and baking soda. Mix till all the ingredients are fully blended and the texture of the flour becomes smooth.
Put in the fruits and nuts and stir once to spread them evenly. Grease a cookie sheet lightly and fill them with the cookie batter. Bake these cookies in a 350 °F preheated oven for at least 15 minutes. See to it that the cookies are soft when you take them out of the oven. Allow them to cool and let the kids have them for breakfast with a glass of milk.

Fun and Easy Christmas Recipes

Minty Milk Shake


Ingredients
  • Milk, 16 oz.
  • Mint-Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, 4 cups
  • Candy Cane, 1
  • Whipped Cream, 1 tbsp.
Preparation

Put milk and ice cream in a blender and mix. The mixture should be made soft and smooth which will take approximately 1 minute. Transfer this into large glasses and top it with a spoonful of whipped cream. Put in a candy cane and serve.

Chocolate Popcorn


Ingredients
  • Milk Chocolate Morsels, 12 oz.
  • Salted Peanuts, 16 oz.
  • Butter or Margarine, 4 oz.
  • Popped Popcorn, 12 cups
  • Light Corn Syrup, 4 oz.
Preparation

Take a roasting pan and grease it lightly. Place popcorn in a pan and mix it with the salted peanuts. In a heavy sauce pan, mix corn syrup, milk chocolate morsels, and butter. Cook them on a medium flame by covering the sauce pan with a lid. When the mixture reaches boiling point, add the popcorn and stir.
Take a large bowl and line it with waxed paper. Pour the popcorn mixture into this bowl and bake it for 30-40 minutes in a 300 °F preheated oven. Make sure that you stir it once or twice while baking.
One important thing to remember is that allowing children to help while cooking means turning your neat and clean kitchen into a mess. However, the fun you will have with your children while cooking will be much greater than the effort you will have to take later.
