Halloween Door Decoration Ideas

With all your Halloween decorations ready for the interiors, it's time to focus on the exterior. Take a look at some great decoration ideas for your door to inspire you and create the look you want this Halloween!
Halloween decorations are not complete with just crafts or just pumpkins. For this, you must set a mood, use a group of elements together, create appropriate lighting, and decide whether the mood should be friendly, slightly spooky, or very spooky! Based on these thoughts, here are some ideas for Halloween door decorations.
♦ When it comes to decorating for Halloween, the spookier the better. For our first illustration, we've suggested a hint of illusion. Either get a ready-made poster from a craft store or paint an image on a huge piece of craft paper.
This works best if you have a see-through door (though you could just stick it on your main door). You can pretty much paint anything that can scare everyone as they approach your house.
♦ For our next suggestion, we thought the concept of "the simple, the better" fits perfectly. Get a scary-looking pumpkin boy/man and light a few orange-colored lights outside your door, facing the door.
♦ Instead of a simple door knob, why don't we "lend a hand" to your guests? A hand used as a door knob may not seem a lot, but it can be very eerie at night, with no lights on the porch, and a scary environment.
Make one out of styrofoam or buy a hand and just place it above your knob for effect. You could also put up a spider web on your door. Have your kids cut out and stick bats and spiders, and give them a great activity for this holiday.
♦ If you want to get a little freaky, while decorating doors for Halloween, how about skulls or a headless man and woman with a pumpkin for a head, greeting your guests at the entryway? Further, light up the insides of the skulls with candles. If you can get a wig, put one on the skulls or the headless man and woman.
♦ Put up cutouts of friendly ghosts on the door. Or you and the kids can make a cute stuffed scarecrow and hang him on the door.
To embellish this idea, add a candy wreath with a message written on it. Place couple of pumpkin heads on either side of the door, and your décor is ready.
♦ For simple and sweet Halloween decorations, make a simple wreath with styrofoam and decorate it with candy, flowers and leaves. Try to get candy wrapped in black and orange wrappers to imbibe the spirit of Halloween.
Make use of dim, flickering lights to look give your house a haunted look. Also place some dry autumn leaves, if you have a stairway to your porch, for an authentic spooky look!
♦ Blood can be scary. Give a horrific look to your front door with blotches of blood on it. Take cotton balls, dip them in red paint, and dab all over your door. Place cobwebs, spiders, fake knives, and other decorative stuff outside the door. Use a fog machine to complete the illusion.
♦ A simple, yet festive way to decorate your door - a "haunted" sign. It fits in everyone's budget and doesn't require much hoopla. Cut out bats and spiders from chart paper, and hang them right over your door at different levels.
Alternately, you could stick them on your door for an eerie look. Don't use lights for this one, keep your porch dark so that it really looks eerie.
Most of these door decorations are simple and can be made at home. The manner in which you decorate your doors for Halloween reflects the spirit with which you enjoy this holiday. There is no specific rule that you have to adhere to. It can be exactly the way you like it, and still look stunning.
