Also known as magic reindeer food or magic reindeer dust, this is a fun kids' activity during Christmas. According to tradition, each year, young kids leave milk and cookies for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. But what about the reindeer? Even they get hungry after riding from one place to the other.
Shouldn't they get sweet treats while they wait for Santa out in the garden? As a popular Christmas school project, kids are given a few ingredients to make the food. Whether this activity is done in school or at home, you too can make sweet snacks for Rudolph and his friends.

Traditional Magic Food

Ingredients
♦ Rolled oats, 1 cup
♦ Red-colored sugar crystals, 4 tablespoons
♦ Green-colored sugar crystals, 4 tablespoons
Directions
In a bowl, mix all the ingredients, and stir it with a wooden spoon. If you want, you can add different colors of sugar crystals like blue, yellow, and orange to make the mixture even more colorful. Once mixed, ask the kids to leave the mixture in a bowl for the reindeer.

Cereal Magic Food

Ingredients
♦ Froot Loops cereal, 4 cups
♦ Semi-sweet chocolate chips, 12 oz.
♦ Peanut butter, ¾ cup
♦ Colorful sugar crystals, 1 cup
Directions
In a double boiler, melt peanut butter with the chocolate chips over low heat. Once the mixture is ready, remove the pot off the heat, and let it cool down just a bit. Add Froot Loops in and let it coat properly. In the end, sprinkle sugar crystals; the mixture at this point will still be slightly gooey.
With a ladle, place the mixture on a cookie sheet. Flatten it with a spoon and let it cool down completely. With your hands, break the cookies into small crumbs. If you want, you can even add Coco Puffs, Lucky Charms, or Oreos to this recipe.

Fruity Magic Food

Ingredients
♦ 2 cups dried apple slices
♦ 2 cups red and blue sugar crystals
♦ Nutmeg, for taste
♦ Cinnamon sticks, for taste
♦ Cloves, for taste
Directions
In a bowl, mix all the ingredients and stir properly. You can add about ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. On Christmas Eve, have the kids keep the food in a bowl on the porch.
Don't waste the efforts of the kids just by throwing the food away. Instead, donate it at a homeless shelter. All you have to do is place the reindeer food in small plastic bags, and seal it properly. Also, don't forget to write a short poem on it.
